”But ye have not so learned Christ; if so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.“
Ephesians 4:20-24 KJV
It never fails that every year around this time, resolutions are made, life changes are pondered, reflections on the past year’s growth and/or shortcomings runs laps in our minds and then there are the ever present personal goals, ie. weight loss or gain, better relationships or marriages, to take a step towards further education or not.. you know, the normal “Well what about if I? or “If I do it this way, maybe…” inner inquisitions. Oops, can’t leave out the infamous, “Should I stay at this job through another year?” Sound familiar? Yeah, of course it does!!! But what about a deeper relationship with GOD?
”Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.“
Philippians 3:13-14 KJV
I love how the Apostle Paul said: “..forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before…”..why would we then choose to blaze the same trails as times in the past, towards what we think is the best for us instead of turning towards a source, no.. The Source of all of our lives to give us the guidance on which way to go?
”God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth.. seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: for in him we live, and move, and have our being.. For we are also his offspring. Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.“
Acts 17:24-31 KJV (Purposefully shortened so that you dive into The Bible and read the full content)
Final Thought: ”looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.“
Hebrews 12:2 KJV
Isn’t it even the more simpler to surrender our will for our lives to The One that died just for us, is waiting with open arms, Who never breaks a promise, Who can see what is in front of us before we even know what is coming and Who because He loves us so much, corrects us (if we allow Him to do so) so that next year this same time, we aren’t looking back to see that we made the same mistakes again?
